Soulwaxmas 2012

A compilation of the videos and pictures I took/filmed at Soulwaxmas 2012 down at the O2 in Brixton.
8 hours of musical brilliance.
Enjoy, I know I did.

Hicks & Healey Cornish Whiskey - A Brief Review

Hicks & Healey Cornish Whiskey is the first Cornish Whiskey to be produced in over 300 years.
Made from Maris Otter Cornish Barley mash, double-distilled in the smallest traditional copper pot still in the country and with only a small number of bottles available it really is a limited edition drink.
And in November this year my father obtained a bottle from the Healey's Cider farm store in Cornwall.

Today we popped the cork after a hearty Christmas meal and took a sip. And my my what a drink!

Tale of Gamers - Update, 1st Draft Army Lists

The thought of getting involved with this Tale of Gamers for next year has really got my creative juices flowing (thanks for that Skaltar =] ) and I have been pondering what I want out of my army lists since it was first mentioned. After a bit of careful thought and consideration I have come up with a 1st draft list for my Necrons and for my Ogres.

Both are likely to change a little bit over the course of the year, but they give me an idea to start with and I can start painting the core units that won't change first and work from there.

Tale of Gamers - Update

Just a quick one to add to the my last post about the Tale of Gamers 2013 I have gotten my self involved in.

Skalter posted up a little earlier that he has decided on his army. After some though he has decided on dusting off his old Dark Eldar force that was started not finished. See the full post from him HERE.

On top of deciding on his army he also suggested the idea of opening this up to the Warhammer Fantasy players as well. The basic idea being to have them paint 300-350pts per 2 months to end up with a 2000pts force. Basically a more standard size for them, similar to 40K's 1500pts. I personally think its a great idea as it gets more people involved.

Tale of Gamers/Painters

Just in case you haven't noticed from the lack of posts relating to them I have been struggling to get my act together, get motivated and paint my Necrons. Or paint anything for that matter.
I have been trying to get back at the paint table for a while now but have had little success, the most I have managed is paint in 2 months is the energy cells on 4 Necron Warrior's guns.
Some outside influence to kick me up the arse if I slack off is needed I think. And it has arrived in the form of Skaltar and Mart. I have joined them in a Tale of Gamers/Painters project for next year.

Chaplains in 6th Ed?

Chaplains have always been both a useful and iconic unit in any standard Space Marine Codex army. Being one of only two none named character HQ choices to come with a power weapon in their base points. But with the arrival of 6th Edition and the changes to close combat weaponry, amongst other things, are they still worth fielding? I will try to address this question with my own experience and see where we end up....

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale - Review

All-Stars Battle Royal is a crossover fighting game released for the PS3 and PS:Vita at the tail end of November.

Conceptually similar to Super Smash Bros the game allows up to 4 players to battle against each other using characters from across various Sony games. But whilst been similar to Smash Bros in some respects it is considerably different in others.

The Anapnut Dynasty - 1800 Points.

Alright folks, welcome back.
Having completely my 1800 point Ultramarine drop pod army, except for a bit of paint, I have moved on to thinking properly about what I want to do with my Necron army.

I feel a bit bad that I left them to gather rust after finishing my Scythe model but to be honest, I kind of lost interest in the army. I don't know why. Regardless of the the reason, I am past the worst of it, and have actually had some fun thinking up new ideas for my army and considering what to buy next.

Retail Therapy......

....it's a b***h!

Well,  for reasons I don't care to go in to right now I found my self in need of some cheering up on Saturday.
And for reasons beyond my control that entailed buying new tech and games, despite having no money haha! It has to be done!!!

I went and took a look in Comet, since they are liquidating their stock, as I thought I could pick some stuff up cheap. I could always use an extra HDMI cable as well as some new headphones, and if the price is right then why not?
Well how wrong I was. Stuff was still way more expensive than other leading retailers, and the 'slashed prices' were more like 'nudged a little prices'. For example an iPod dock usually £54.99 was reduced to £52.99, WOW!! So yes, that venture proved to be pointless. And they wonder why they are having to shut up shop!

Disappointed I wandered over to Currys which is in the same retail park; and lets just say I walked out a very happy chap.

Changes

Welcome back.
As some of you may have realised, the look and name of my blog has changed over the last week or so.
The reason for this is because the function of my blog will be changing from now on.
I will still be bringing you all my wargaming updates in the same way I always have (pages are in the side bar under 'Wargaming Pages'). But also I want to use my blog as a place to discuss my other interests and my life in general.

New White Dwarf Review

Howdy Folks. Chris here.
Now despite getting and reading White Dwarf every month, I don't normally do a review of it. Partly out of laziness, and partly due to it not being needed - its out there, go read it!!
However this month is different. The new White Dwarf has been released with its new format and styling, the old version is dead. My copy finally arrived in the post (damn my crippled self, wanted it on Saturday damn it! Haha) and I figured I would give you all a run down of what it is like and my thoughts on it!

Baneblade 'Sister of Silence' - Complete

Rolling from the Forge with a fresh coat of paint comes the Sister of Silence. A Baneblade from the Macragge 3rd Airborne defence force. Her power and might ensuring that the defenders of the 3rd Airborne's airfields never fail in their mission.

Tuesday 11 September 2012

Sister of Silence - WIP#2

Further progress has been made on my Baneblade!
If only large area washes didn't take 40,000 years to dry it might be going a bit faster!!!

Monday 10 September 2012

'Sister of Silence' of the Macragge 3rd Airborne

Sorry for not posting in a while, much has been going on in my life which has dragged me away from the hobby. Not least breaking my ankle wakeboarding, because you know; I am just that sensible!
I have  made the most of it though and used my pot to display my allegiance to Ultramar!
They offered me a blue cast.....like I was going to pass up the opportunity!

Anyway, back to the point of this post!! My brilliant friends Matt and Emma bought me a Baneblade for my birthday, so of course this got my hobby juices flowing and re-ignited my desire to start my Ultramar Defence Auxilia forces.

2012 Charity Tournament at Hull Angels - Planning Part 2

Well as stated in my last post I have entered in to the Hulls Angels Charity Tournament on the 15th of September this year.
I got to play testing the list from my previous post this weekend against Snorri and found that I got completely mangled. I
knew it was going to be an up hill battle as Snorri's Praetorian Imperial Guard army is immense (and every time I see if I am even more jealous that before =P) and the addition of two new beautiful fliers has just made it even stronger. What I didn't think was that it was going to be like running in to a giant blender....but ooh dear it was.

Friday 17 August 2012

2012 Charity Tournament at Hull Angels - Planning

I have entered in to the Hulls Angels Charity Tournament again this year which is on the 15th of September. This year it is being held to raise money for the Radiotherapy ward at Castle Hill, a great cause that I am happy to contribute towards. You never know, I may even win the raffle again!!

I of course entered with my Marines. I did consider entering my Necrons for it, but I didn't want to rush them that much. This will be the first 6th Edition tournament I have taken part in, so that should be interesting to say the least!!

Wednesday 8 August 2012

And so it begins.....

I have had an image, a dream if you will, of what I want my Ultramarine army to be and how I want it to play for some time, almost since I started collecting them.

And at last that idea is coming together and I am on my way to completing my Ultramarines (for now).

Tuesday 7 August 2012

6th Edition and Allies

Well I have been pondering the potential for Allies over the last few days just to see what I can have along side my Ultramarines.

For me allies don't provide a method of filling potential gaps in a forces strengths, although this may end up being a side result I admit, but rather they provide a chance to make truly fluff filled armies that look nice, fit well and are fun to play with regardless of anything else.

The main ones I can see being a nice combo for my Marines are:

Ultramarines Force Roster - Updated.

Well I have finally got round to updating my Ultramarine Force Roster to get in some of the new models I have bought, add photos of ones I have painted but never photographed and also sort the formatting on the page out as it was all over the place previously and it really annoyed me.

These are my current force options with more on the way soon, hopefully.

Sunday 15 July 2012

'Ultramarines vs. Necrons - 5th July 2012' and my verdict on 6th so far

Well I headed on over to Hulls Angels for a game of 6th Edition against Skaltar and his Necrons on the 5th. (late posting the report as I have been away for the last week).
First off I'd like to say thanks to Skal for the game, really enjoyed it, and look forward to another game once I have chance to changes things up a little bit.

I learnt a lot about what bits in my current build don't work any more and which do. Well at least against the Crons. Will take what I learnt, and have some games against other armies and work towards a new build. Already got some plans for that.

Well anyway, here is what happened on the 5th :)

Saturday 30 June 2012

Unboxing The Ultimate Warhammer 40,000 6th Ed Bundle!

Well I was weak and could not resist purchasing my self the  Ultimate Warhammer 40,000 Bundle when they became available for pre-order last week.
And I have to say, I am VERY glad I did.

I headed on over to GW Bradford to pick it up this morning and here it is........

Thursday 28 June 2012

Night/Doom Scythe Complete

Finished up my Necron Scythe model last night. Since the under slung part can be so easily swapped out and nothing else is different I painted up both attachments and didn't glue them.

The model was a joy to paint. Lovely to paint something large that wasn't a Space Marine tank. As much as I love my Ultramarines I have to say I am bored with painting their vehicles.

Saturday 23 June 2012

Night/Doom Scythe WIP#1

I have been working on my Night/Doom Scythe kit for about a week now. Not had as much time as I would like to throw at it but I have been making some progress.

I really enjoyed building the kit, its really well designed and really easy to assemble. One feature I really like is that the portal and ray can be changed out easily with out magnets provided you don't glue it and build both features.

I got it all built up, base included, fairly quickly and started planning the paint. Having only painted two basic test miniatures for my cron force so far (a warrior and a scarab base, see HERE) I knew the basic colour scheme but was not sure how to enlarge it to this scale. One thing that did not come up with the warrior or scarabs was the colour to use for the senior troops/leaders and vehicles. This of course did some up here. My initial plan was to go with silver, but I decided to add some gold in there instead. I think it goes with the black, grey and red scheme better and I am really happy with the result thus far.

Thursday 7 June 2012

Maritime Fleet Elements gathered, Mercs on the Horizon.

Been hard at work over the last few day and have completed the remaining maritime elements of War Fleet Strabonis.

This includes the Escort attachment for the Fleet and my Thales Class Corvette Squadron 'Drake'.

Also I have painted up the Mercenary Sub the Black Wolf.

Monday 4 June 2012

Prometheus Class Dreadnought

The heavy guns have arrived for War Fleet
Strabonis.

Nelson, the Prometheus Class Dreadnought has ported in to aid in the liberation of the world from the clutches of oppressive power hungry leaders.

Saturday 26 May 2012

New Aircraft Available

Well with the new White Dwarf comes word of the new aircraft for Space Marines and Orks and the missing craft for the Crons (finally).
I haven't picked up WD yet, I shall be doing so on Monday/Tuesday, but I have to say that I am impressed by what I am seeing so far.....

Friday 25 May 2012

Pericles Class Fleet Carrier and Diogenes Class Frigates

War Fleet Strabonis gets some more reinforcements for their Maritime forces.

This time it is the Pericles Class Fleet Carrier 'Katapeltes' and  Diogenes Class Frigate Squadron 'Bering'.

Monday 21 May 2012

Aristotle Class Battleship and Diogenes Class Frigate Squadron

War Fleet Strabonis gets some reinforcements.
Put the finishing touched to my Aristotle Class Battleship 'Sheldon' last night and then got through the first of my squadrons of Diogenes Class Frigate's, this one being Diogenes Class Frigate Squadron 'William Adams'.

Sunday 20 May 2012

Spring Weekend Wargaming

Well Mark, Sam and Ben came round for a weekend of wargaming and a smidge of drinking this weekend and it was a rather good weekend.

I hosted this time and wrote a story around an Eldar Exodite world called 'Saim-arch' to fight over.
The guys got here Friday and we did some  smaller games that added some elements to the bigger game on Saturday.

Saturday 28 April 2012

Necron 2nd Wave Pre-Order

Well as some of you may have noticed GW have thrown an update up advising that the 2nd Wave of Necron models are available for pre-order.

SEE HERE

Which is all great but.....

Wednesday 25 April 2012

Terrain update

Hallo bloggers.
Just a small update about the terrain I have been working on.
I have finished up my Citadel hill, my first wood and also a fair few bits for my Eldar spring event. Most of the Eldar stuff is staying in the cupboard until the event. Bit of a surprise and all that.

 Pictures after the break....

Wednesday 18 April 2012

Old War Room Custom Kill Team Rules

I have been working on some Kill Team rules for the last few months and have finally finished them.
I started them due to putting a Spring wargaming weekend on for some friends and wanting to play Kill Team on Sunday. The only issue was that I could not find a decent rules set to use, so I figured why not write my own aye?

Wednesday 11 April 2012

Unsealing the hatch for some fresh air

Well I haven't posted in some time, mainly due to real life smashing me in the face with a Thunder Hammer. But here isn't the place for such things.

I have managed to get a little bit of Hobby work done over the last month, but not as much as I need to. I have managed to get a fair few games in though, good distraction, so thanks a lot to Sam, Mark, Ben and Leon for that.

Monday 19 March 2012

Scout Squad Tenebrae - Complete

The Squad Sergeant
The efforts of a sleepness night saw me get my first squad of Scouts finished. As you will see from the previous WIP post these are some Scouts I have had built for some time but never used much.

Hopefully now they are painted up it will inspire me to use them more. I should, as they are effective for the points.

Friday 16 March 2012

Ultramarine Scouts with Missile Launcher WIP#1

Well I have had my 5 man Scout Squad with Missile Launcher constructed and undercoated for going on a year and a half. But as I rarely used them I never got round to painting them....however I realised recently that these days the reason why I don't use them is because they're not painted. I have considered them many times, but then thought "the rest of my army is painted, so I cant take my Scouts and ruin that".

Realising this, I have decided that I should pull my finger out and give them the paint they deserve.

Wednesday 14 March 2012

Eldar Webway Gates Complete

Finished up the Eldar Webway Gates I have been working on over the last few days.

Got them based and the final bit of paint on there.

Tuesday 13 March 2012

Eldar Webway Gate WIP#2

Well I have done a bit more work on my Eldar Webway Gates.

I come them paper-mache'd up last night so that they would dry for today and then got them painted up today.
Sprayed them white with a bit of touch up using poster paint and then did the bases with brown poster paint....

Monday 12 March 2012

Eldar Webway Gate WIP#1

Finally got all the materials I need to started work on my Eldar Terrain for Spring.

Decided to start with the Eldar Webway Gates, not for any particular reason. I have a fairly basic plan for them, a solid foam base, a cardboard and paper-mache structure, paint it all white and grass flock the base. Perhaps chuck a few spirit stone type bits in their for effect.
Pictures after the break....

Sunday 11 March 2012

From doubles and other ventures

Well I have ventured forth from the safety of the bunker to take part in a few bits and bobs recently, and I realised today that I really ought to post up about them hadn't I.

Saturday 3 March 2012

Ogre Butcher and Slaughtermaster WIP#1

Picked up a Slaughtermaster kit the other day, got it home to construct and realised that you get rather a lot of optional arms, heads and other bits and bobs. So this made me decide to pull out a spare ogre torso I had and build my self a Butcher as well. My first major conversion, but you have to start somewhere right?

Wednesday 22 February 2012

Objective (markers) secure

Well I was re-reading the rules pack for the Warhammer 40K Doubles Weekend on Sunday...and boy am I glad I did. I forgot ALL about the 'Brothers in Arms' rules which me and Snorri can take advantage of, so have sorted that out.
Also I noticed that we are required to bring 5 themed, fully painted and based, 40mm objective markers with us.... of which both of us had a grand total of 0.
Luckily I had some 40mm bases lying around so was able to grab them, my bits box and some glue and throw something together.

Wednesday 15 February 2012

Saturday 11 February 2012

Plato Class Cruiser Squadron

Well after getting positive feed back from a couple of people and also liking it my self I decided that this was the paint scheme for me and continued the painting.

I sat down today and painted up the other two Plato Class Cruisers and also went ahead and did all 12 of the energy turrets (from various units) in one big batch.

Thursday 9 February 2012

Out the paint shop and ready for inspection sir!

I have painted up my first test miniatures for the Covenant of Antarctica. Stuck with the original plan for the paint scheme for the most part. Few minor changes mid work, but lets face it, that nearly always happens.

Fresh from the founrdy and heading for paint....

Got all my forces for Covenant of Antarctica unboxed and assembled last night.

Wednesday 8 February 2012

Covenant of Antarctica

My Covenant of Antarctica box sets arrived today.
And I have to say  I am very pleased by the quality of the models and the quality of the service provided by Spartan Games.

Sunday 5 February 2012

Necron test miniatures

Found my self with a spare hour this afternoon so decided it was about time I painted a test Necron or two to make sure the colour scheme I want to do actually works.
The scheme I have gone for is black and grey with red power units. Fairly simple paint scheme, but since when do Necrons care about looks.
All the bases are as if they are still aboard their ships.

Wednesday 1 February 2012

Quick update...

Nothing major really.
Just updating to say I finally got round to redesigning my Ultramar and Anapnut blogs to be for info only and not to he posted on to. As that is what here is for.
They will still get force information and pictures etc. as they act as the page links for here.

Monday 16 January 2012

Weekend wargames

Well the weekend just gone saw a Saturday filled with Ogres, stunties, betrayal (by me MUHAHAHHA) and  lots of grunts from the massed tribes and a Sunday of odd ships and land craft fighting it out in the south.

Went to my friend Sam's place for a weekend of wargaming and Mark and Ben climbed from the Hull flat lands to join us here in the mountains.
Sam organised the whole event with Saturday seeing the combined Ogre tribes of me, Ben and Mark take on Sam's Dwarves who were guarding a fortress.
Little did Ben and Mark realise that I had in fact been hired by the Empire to take out the Ogre assault force and save the Dwarves. And since Tyrant Bulcrunch likes his gold and the flavour of other Tyrants he decided to honour the agreement.

Tuesday 10 January 2012

Necron back story

I have just finished writing the history behind where my Necron Dynasty comes from.
They are called the 'Anapnut Dynasty' and are a fleet based Necron force.

"The Anapnut dynasty is a rare thing amongst the many dynasties of the Necrons. They are an almost entirely ship based dynasty, the nobles choosing to rule from massive world engines more akin to metal moons than spaceships.  Each of these ships houses hundreds of thousands of Necrons and is commanded by an Overlord.  Each world engine is supported by a seemingly countless fleet of smaller craft ranging from smaller Dirge escorts to huge Tombships.  All of the Overlords answer to the Anapnut Phaeron Keksuhad Sekhrey. Keksuhad leads his forces from his supreme world engine known as Sekhmit.
The Anapnut dynasty has been a heavily shipped base society well before the biotransference that saw them transformed into the soulless metal beings they are today.
